[Dec 17th] So with being able to find a gym and pool nearby and mustering up the courage to ask not just at one place with multiple people, but two and still only managing to somewhat talk around it in a muted tone, I was finally able to get back to the pool. This time with my Asos Swim Thong.

After the usual gym session I went to the pool area. I wanted to double check and went out to where the lifeguard were seated and asked someone who I thought was a lifeguard and said that I had checked already the day before and wanted to check if swim thongs were OK. The man I spoke to was somewhat perplexed and then glanced over to the man across a narrow table, who I assume might’ve been the real lifeguard, and said yes it should be OK. Then I emphasized that it is very narrow in the back while gesturing with my fingers the narrow strip in the back. To which he laughingly said, “Yes all swimsuits are OK as long as you are not naked.”

So with that I proceeded to head back to the changing room after having gotten a triumphant response and put on my suit and headed back out. I walked past a girl on the ground in a sport t-shirt and leggings stretching on the ground, the two men I just spoken with and round the corner to the start of the warm-up pool. The lifeguard who I’d spoken to the first day was there with someone else as well.

The pool was fairly quiet and not certain of the makeup unlike the first day and just had a few short winded laps as my usual pool are either 25m or under and this is 50m. The girl who had been stretching earlier was stripping down to her swimsuit and it turned out the guy I’d spoken with was her coach or something and she was training. Her suit was a lovely two piece, possibly arena with a somewhat triangle top bikini and tanga like bottom with 3/4 back.

After this I’ve been regularly going to the pool in my Asos swim thong. Apart from this I also brought my Dessue, Aussiebum swim thongs as well as two pair of JOR swim thongs. The rest I didn’t bring as they are fairly old. The Dessue swim thong is somewhat skimpy and doesn’t fit or hold securely so definitely won’t be wearing that. The Aussiebum thong was supposed to be for the beach as I wanted something with a wider body and waistband to get a wider tan. That wasn’t a great suit and the two JOR thongs are supposed to take its place and will only be worn at the beach.

I quite judiciously brought three swim thongs from Aliexpress, which after having had a chance to review will become my options for the pool. So have some things to try out alright :).

The make up of the pool so far has varied, with a mix of older folk, most of them almost fully covered up or in regular shorts or one piece suits. On one session there was a gang of men who had taken up one whole lane section and after I’d gotten in the pool for a while had vacated but on returning to the changing room, it was almost crowded with them hanging out for whatever reason. Apart from crowding the pool and changing room and somewhat effecting the atmosphere, there was nothing untoward as I walked in my thong and started changing.

Today [24th Dec] before heading out to where the pools are located, while showering near the way walk to the outside, two women, completely covered from head to toe clambered around the corner and I just ambled on to pick up my gear and wasn’t in the best frame to survey the environment for reactions due to either stress or family drama. After heading outside and making my way to the warm-up pool I noticed it was a trio of younger men and not the usual lifeguard who I had met the first day.

On walking up to them, none of them bothered glancing up from whatever they were engaged in and naturally I didn’t bother making eye contact and just kept walking past, possibly a bit of jitters myself and possibly some muttering after? Not quite sure.

The pool had one lane blocked as they were having training for something, some had snorkeling masks on but the rest seemed to be swimming laps. There were one of two men standing at the head of that lane, which added to the nerves from the constant quiet and lull sessions.

I just dropped off my gear at the usual spot, headed up to the ladders and climbed on into the water. At this point the two ladies had arrived and were climbing in. They were somewhat right in my lane so I offered if they would want it, but said no and move a bit to the side.

I just did my laps and then headed back and tried to get a quiet changing room, there’s a set of them throughout the T-shaped concourse that leads to and away from the pool and main reception.

But on doing so, there was a biggish young man that came in and headed towards the changing area. He seemed flustered or unsure and kind of headed into the changing area Not sure if he was there to just use the bathrooms or swim but I just went to the showers and quickly rinsed, stepped out of my suit and headed back to the changing area with just the towel held in my front of me.

The man seemed to be heading out at this point, not sure why he was in there and if he just went to another changing room, but people like this you can sense their put on awkwardness, or maybe it was my perception? Afterwards another man came in and headed out to the showers and came in with a towel but started drying off while unwrapping himself out of it, so wasn’t as prudish as the other folks I’d seen and started chatting.

Overall the vibes have been quite good with friendly banter and chit chats with more mature folks, while the younger ones are quite peevish. The gym is quite good, with possibly only a decline bench and dip bars missing and has been fairly free. The pool is amazing as well as the spacious, clean and often quiet changing rooms. And with the acceptance of swim thongs it has been very positive, bar the few days of feeling unsure or having crowds of imposing types. But overall a great win 🙂
